THE STUDENTS’ CHALLENGES IN USING NOVO LEARNING AT ELESP BATCH 2021

Abstract

ELESP batch 2021 are using Novo Learning in English Subjects. This condition was made as a way for students to use self-access learning. However, in using the application or website, there are challenges experienced by students, especially in using Novo Learning. So this research focuses on the students’ challenges of using Novo Learning. The study uses the quantitative descriptive approach. The main data was obtained from the results of a closed-ended Likert scale questionnaire through WhatsApp groups using random sampling and got 68 students who served as samples. Secondary data took interviews according to the choice of answers from the questionnaire results. And data analysis using descriptive statistics. The result of this study is that most students (63.5%) faced challenges when using Novo Learning. The first challenge to the student's academic skills because of their lack of pronunciation skills. The second challenge is student motivation challenges. The third challenge is access to the internet. The fourth challenge is technical challenges from Novo Learning application. Meanwhile, they didn’t face any significant challenges in assessment of Novo Learning. The researchers suggest that for academic skill, students must change their accent when pronouncing. Next, the learner's motivation and his student network connections. Students can do it with friends at a cafe or campus because it will increase their motivation, and wi-fi is available. Also to challenge technical challenges that Novo Learning can overcome this problem or students change their device.
