Abstract

In learning English as a foreign language, mastering listening skills is crucial as it integrates receptive abilities with spoken language competence. Without sufficient listening skills, EFL learners will struggle with English communication. Our preliminary observations revealed students lacked of listening skills and had difficulties in finding instructional media to help them practice their listening. This study aimed to investigate whether using podcasts from the Noice application could improve students’ listening skills. Conducted at SMA PGRI 109 Tangerang, the research involved 40 students in a control class and 40 in an experimental class. This study used a quantitative approach. The instrument included pre-test and post test to measure students’ listening skill. In addition, Noice application was also used as the intervention in experimental class. The results showed significant improvement of the students’ listening skill in the experimental class, with the tcount score was 8.64 exceeding the
ttable of 2.03. Thus, H1 was accepted. Meanwhile, the control class showed no significant improvement, with tcount score was 1.67 below ttable of 2.03. Thus, H0 was accepted. Therefore, the study concludes that using podcasts from the Noice application can improve students’ listening skills effectively.
