Abstract

Reading comprehension is fundamental for students to help them understand the meaning of a text, a story, or a material. This research aimed to investigate the best implementation of webtoons to improve students' reading comprehension of narrative text for ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Bangli. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used to design this research. There were four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research conducted two cycles, cycle 1 and cycle 2. According to the result of this research, the best implementation of webtoons to improve students’ reading comprehension was to ask the students to read aloud, read silently, and discuss to make the students understand the content of the story in each generic structure. Explain the material orally and give a PowerPoint presentation to help them understand the purpose of the text and the language features. I gave homework to the students and discussed the assignment to make them understand the story's moral value. Lastly, I asked the students to write unfamiliar vocabulary words and search for their meanings to make them know the synonyms of a word.
