Abstract

Acquiring foreign languages, particularly English, is believed to equip students with an added value when they graduate. Therefore, awareness in learning FL is needed to support the success of students’ foreign language (FL) learning. This study aims to identify the level of the students’ awareness in learning FL, which include: English, Japanese, Chinese, and French. Besides, it is to investigate their reasons to learn FL. The mix- method of the quantitative and qualitative design is employed. The students of Business Administration are given questionnaires and interviewed. The findings confirm that the majority of students at the Department have high awareness in learning FL. The reasons that support their awareness vary. Mostly, it is due to their need to be able to communicate and establish relationships globally, to get a job, to develop business, to increase knowledge, to read foreign literature, and to visit other countries for work or study. It is hoped that the findings will contribute to foreign language teachers to encourage students to learn and to enrich teaching materials that facilitate students’ FL learning success.
