AI-DRIVEN ANIMATION OF LOCAL FOLKTALES AS A MEDIUM FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Elementary school students in Indonesia face challenges in learning English, such as mother tongue influence, short attention spans, varied learning styles, and limited qualified teachers. Traditional textbooks often fail to engage them and reducing their motivation. To address this, the study was aimed at developing an English learning media in the form of animated local folktales application generated using AI. This study used Design and Development Research design. Moreover, ADDIE model used in developing product. The data collection was collected from an interview guide, observation fieldnotes, questionnaire. The application was developed using ChatGPT 4.0 for illustration, Runway for animations, Typecast for voice-overs, and Ezgif for video processing. Together, these tools enabled the creation of interactive and engaging English learning media. The findings indicated that the product in the form of application that consists of 8 local folktales from Malang received good feedback, as all the features in the application were appropriate for both teachers and elementary school students. This application presents interesting English learning topics with animations. So, the animated folktales application helps the teachers and students in creating a fun learning environment.
