This study aimed to design and develop animated videos as learning media to support students’ vocabulary in learning English at MIN 2 Malang. The background of this study was based on learning problems identified in grade 5, such as low student motivation, difficulty understanding English vocabulary, and the lack of effective media to support learning activities. Additionally, the need for teachers to access innovative and engaging learning media provides a strong foundation for developing this media.
This study employed the Design and Development Research (DDR) approach using the ADDIE model, which included five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collected using quantitative and qualitative methods, including expert validation and distributing questionnaires to 30 students and an English teacher. Expert validation results for content, language, and design indicated that this media was suitable for use, with ratings ranging from "good" to "very good." Student evaluations yielded positive responses, with an average score above 3 and a top score of 4 on the game feature that helps students recall the material. The teacher's assessment also scored very highly at 4.9 out of 5 (98%).
In conclusion, the development of animated video media based on the ADDIE model proved to be effective, feasible, and engaging for supporting students’ English vocabulary. This media was recommended as an innovative learning tool to enhance students’ motivation and understanding of English at the elementary school level.
