Developing a Bilingual Guidebook for Anjuk Ladang Museum

Abstract

Museums in Indonesia, including Anjuk Ladang Museum in Nganjuk, face challenges such as limited visitor interest and inadequate information delivery, particularly for foreign visitors. These issues restrict the museum’s role in education and cultural preservation. This research aims to develop a bilingual guidebook (Indonesian–English) that serves as both an informative source and promotional media. The study employed Design and Development Research (DDR) with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. During the analysis phase, interviews with museum managers identified the absence of a guidebook and the need for bilingual materials. In the design phase, the layout and content outline were created, followed by the development phase, where the guidebook was produced using Canva and improved based on expert validation in terms of content, design, and language. The implementation involved field-testing with visitors both on-site and through social media, while the evaluation phase analysed questionnaire feedback. The results of expert validation indicated that the guidebook is accurate, informative, visually appealing, and easy to understand. Field testing confirmed that the product meets the criteria of an effective guidebook. The final output is a bilingual guidebook available in both print and digital formats, accessible via QR code. It contains historical information, artefact descriptions, visuals, interesting facts, and educational games to enhance visitor engagement. This research concludes that the developed guidebook can enrich visitor experiences, support local tourism promotion, and contribute to cultural preservation.
